The White Kitchen - a defined kitchen trend for 2014

We have definitely noticed a new trend in kitchen design, both here at Phoenix and in the market in general, and that is the White Kitchen with contrasting elements. We will discuss what makes these kitchens work:

For Phoenix it started with our Showhome 2011 kitchen, where we reversed the counters and island with contracting colors. These shaker panels gave us a sleek elegance with a modern flair.

A dark finish on the range and a stainless cowling provides the contrast that makes this kitchen pop.

Glass inserts in the upper cabinets continue a trend in this style – the interiors/contents of the cupboards and the floors and countertops naturally provide a contrast in the sea of white.

In this home we recently completed in Crystal Harbour the countertops are the star – this Carrera-look stone is very hot in today’s white kitchen market. We also love this lighting element from Restoration Hardware, which mimics the lightness of the glass upper cabinets.

An abundance of natural light is another theme common these to these white kitchens. In the tropics, however, it is critical that the light is controlled by shading devices, avoiding the heat that can come with direct sunlight. Tricky but achievable with good planning.

Introducing a bold colour to the interior cabinet walls is another deft way of adding some contrast

The trend continues into the contemporary kitchen, in reverse, with the flooring and countertops providing the crisp white elements to this stunning kitchen.
