Made In The Shade

Is it our imagination or did we just experience the hottest winter anyone can recall in the Cayman Islands? Never has it been more important to have outdoors areas that provide some relief from the sun, especially as we continue to design homes that have seamless transitions from the indoors to the outdoors.

Here is a look at a few of the many options available as you are planning your outdoor spaces:

This is a very clever retrofit on a home that has a low roofline. I has created a significantly shaded outdoor room.

Alternate shading areas can be created using this simple bracket to fly off the roof a modest structure.

These two photos show two recent Phoenix applications of our very successful operable pergola systems. Above you can see the pergola closed to keep out sun and rain and below you can see the application in an area where only shade is required. Note that the pergola is operated from its own solar panel and operated from the home by a remote control.

The addition of fabric to any pergola system can create shade, mood and privacy!

This oversized shading device created drama with a significant architectural presence

Introducing canvas tenting combined with a pergola adds colour and interest

It does not have to be complex or expensive to be striking and functional

Of course we can always create an outdoor room for the ultimate in shade and comfort – can you see yourself entertaining in this lovely thatched room cabana?
