A True Expression of Style

Nowhere in the home is there a greater opportunity to express your personal style, indulge in a bit of whimsy, and play with really expensive finishes than the Powder Room. Once a feature found in only the grandest homes, the powder room has become a standard feature in the modern western homes, often even being incorporated into the design of modest-sized apartments. Fundamentally it is nice to keep our personal bathroom spaces out of the public eye (except on ‘tour’ occasions!) and a dedicated washroom accomplishes that nicely for a modest sum.

We cannot count the times when our clients get to the powder room and say “OK, let’s have a little fun now” and we are fully on board with that at Phoenix! The room is so small that you really can wander over to the exotic product rack at the tile store or wallpaper shop and let yourself go a little, as the quantity of product required is so minimal! It is an opportunity to create something really stimulating, as one’s exposure to room is generally quite limited and attaining “impact” can be quite a lot of fun!

The great thing is that the Powder Room does not have to mirror the rest of your home. It can be a flight of fancy that expresses a more extreme side of your personality!

A good Powder Room often starts with an iconic furniture piece and is designed around that. Start with a sink, basin, light fixtures or cabinet that really excites you and build out from there.

The room dimensions will often dictate what may be done with the space. This very slim room if effectively fitted out with a slim-line sink and the mirrored wall creates a doubling of the space.

The chart above illustrates some options for typical ‘tight’ Powder Room scenarios. As the room is often used daily by family members we suggest a more generous allotment of space.

A little more space makes for a much more comfortable day to day usage of the room.
