Not Your Grandfather’s Garage Door

Gone are the days when the garage door was an afterthought, a home element often situated on a rear lane and rarely seen by the general public. While it has been a good long while since the demise of the rear loaded property it is only in the past few years that proper attention has been accorded this very prominent architectural element of the home. When it is, the results can be quite striking - have a look at some of the better examples out there:

Integrating the garage doors into the architecture of the home to this extent is rarely attempted. This result shows us that it should be more often!

This simple elegant door add a touch of sophistication to a modest single-story home, and allows additional light into the space.

These repeating carriage doors, while not inexpensive, are a delightful addition to the courtyard of this elegant home. This just screams attention-to-detail about the designer and the builder!

These are a great example of fully custom sets of garage doors. Given sufficient lead time, we can create whatever you can imagine.

As modernist homes begin to hit the mainstream there are also strong trends to using glass panelled doors, clear and opaque. These, while beautiful, will require additional maintenance in Cayman’s corrosive environment.

For an earthier look a natural wood-clad door may be the way to go. Real wood or synthetics that closely mimic wood may be used and are much more resistant to weather and rot.

If you just can’t take your eyes off that beautiful car, just invite it in and use the door as a picture window for the dual-use room.

As an alternative to a garage you might try this superb example of a contemporary gate that creates a private exterior parking area for this home.

What’s your passion? What are you dying to have in your garage? Love it!
