Planning for our Furry Family Members

Consistent with world-wide trends, it seems that Cayman homes are incomplete without that four-legged friend trotting in and out of our family scenes. The inclusion of the family dog or cat into our everyday lives has, naturally created some additional challenges in space planning, circulation and general hygiene. As we plan homes from inception we need to consider how to successfully integrate these family members from the outset, not as a response to an annoyance or aggravation.  Here are some great ideas!

Kids, in particular, will enjoy creating and decorating this “Dog/Cat Room” which removes doggy detritus from a main circulation area and uses space under the stairs. Getting kids involved in pet care early is essential to their understanding of the responsibilities of pet ownership.

Small pets can be encouraged to stay off the beds with the provision of a cozy home close by. This solution is great for kid’s bedrooms.

This furniture piece can be folded up and the bed stored out of the way during the day. A good solution for a small apartment.

Cats do tend to like bathrooms, and if you can give up some storage this solution for the family cat is ideal!

Some dog owners sleep better with their favourite pooch close by. This furniture piece, which can be close up during the day, is easy to clean and maintain and keeps the floor clear.

If your pet prefers more central digs and is barred from the bedrooms this doggie condo is ideal and keeps all the messes contained to one area.

What could be better for the feline who needs to be the centre of attention and the pet owner who would not have it any other way!
